Pre-performance talks and Sunday talkbacks

One hour before every performance, Opera Boston offers a free half-hour presentation by Richard Dyer, now our Dramaturg, or by a special guest. We offer musical selections and commentary about the opera, and these talks provide background information for opera newcomers and longtime operagoers alike. Many of our patrons look forward to the pre-performance talks; we hope to see you there!

Talks are held in the main auditorium of the Majestic Theatre, and seating is general admission. You will be directed to your seat for the performance at the conclusion of the talk.

After Sunday afternoon performances, please stay in the theatre and join us for a talkback with artists from the production. Learn more about an opera singer’s preparation, what it is like to take on a role, and how the production design and direction shapes the drama inherent in the music.

Your Comfort and Convenience

For your convenience, there is a coat check on the lower level of the Majestic Theatre. It will be open for most performances, although during exceptionally nice spring and autumn weather, it may be closed.

Subscriber Policies

One of the benefits of your season subscription is the ability to exchange your seats to another date if you are unable to attend your scheduled performance. Please contact Patron Stewardship Coordinator Sarah Cuddi by phone at 617-451-9944 or by email at scuddi@operaboston.org and alert her that you will need to make an exchange. Then, please mail your tickets back to the office (you may write “Void” across them if you are uncomfortable sending live tickets through
the mail), and, depending on the time until the performance, we will either mail your new tickets to you or arrange for them to be held at the Will Call window at the Majestic Theatre Box Office. We ask that all exchanges be requested at least two weeks before the performance and all exchanges are subject to availability. We appreciate your cooperation and your understanding.

If you are unable to attend any of the three performances of a production, you may donate your tickets back to Opera Boston for resale. If the Majestic Theatre staff confirms that the tickets have been resold, you will receive an in-kind donation letter acknowledging your contribution.

Late Seating Policy

Our goal is to present you with exciting programs of a high artistic quality. To
ensure minimum distraction, we work very closely with the artistic team to find
moments to admit patrons who arrive late to the theatre. Please understand
that late seating is at the discretion of the company. If we are able to admit you
to the auditorium, it is possible you will not be placed in your reserved seat.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Running Time

Please check the opera’s page on our website or call the office the week that the performance
opens, and we will be happy to provide you with the current estimated running time. We
typically do not have an accurate runtime until the run-through the weekend before we open!
