Hands on Workshops
Opera Boston’s interactive workshops for students are designed to to inspire a love a singing and make opera accessible, educational and fun. The programs take place in schools, after-school programs and community settings throughout Greater Boston, with a focus on under-served neighborhoods where children may have few opportunities to experience live music.
The Opera Shop (Grades 3 - 6)
Incorporating material from well-known vocal works, such as Bernstein’s West Side Story and Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance, this activity based program introduces opera to children at their own level and culminate in performing short staged pieces. The goals of the Opera Shop can be measured against the Massachusetts State Curriculum Frameworks, making it easy to integrate into the classroom.
Singing Ambassadors for grades K – 12
Through Opera Boston’s Education and Community Engagement Internship Program, young professional singers visit schools, youth choruses and community centers in the inner city to demonstrate their art and speak to young people about the rewards and challenges of a life in music.
Visiting Artists Master Class Series for High School Students
Opera Boston’s main stage artists present master classes to aspiring teen singers in schools and choral programs throughout Greater Boston. Previous sites have included the Boston Arts Academy, Boston City Singers and Boston Children’s Chorus.
